Bob Mabey

Bob started riding on a Honda Trail 70 when dad decided that the boys might be more excited about going a mile up the canyon in the middle of the night to take the watering turn if they were riding that motorcycle they’d been bugging him about.  Other than that, Bob stuck pretty much to horses through high school – the girls liked them too - and didn’t have his own bike until returning to Utah from the Marine Corps in 1971.  The much used and oft seized Kawasaki 175 was used for commuting to work, playing in the mountains and desert, and went everywhere on the back of a travel trailer until giving way to a Kawasaki Mach III two-stroke with the infamous “wet noodle” frame and awesome unintentional wheelie capability. To avoid having vital body parts vibrate off, the Mach III was followed in 1977 by a ’76 Goldwing purchased, new in the crate, for $2700. Bob says he could still be riding this bike if he hadn’t discovered Beemers.
Bob currently rides his favorite BMW, a ‘84 R100RS, and his other favorite BMW - and the world’s greatest motorcycle - a ’06 R1200GS After 24 years and 250,000 miles of being Beemer mounted he has come to appreciate the fact that they are both loyal and spirited, don’t need to be fed and watered twice a day, don’t crap in the garage, and don’t have unexpected vet bills once or twice a year.
